Ra.One taught me to be patient : Anubhav Sinha
I got the idea for RA.One six years ago
while watching TV and I wasn’t able to
sleep till I wrote the script. I just knew
it was going to be really special and
unique. I also knew it wasa dream that
would take a long time to materialise.
And from the moment I thought of the
film, I knew there was only one guy
who could produce it and that was
Shah Rukh Khan. He agreed to do the
film. We also both believed that
anything as special as this would
takemore money than usual.
A project like RA.One requires a lotof
patience and mental stability. But, at
times, there was a sense of insecurity
that other directors who are my friends
had not only finished one, but two to
three films and I was still completing
mine. RA.One has been in the making
for four years, including pre-
production, shooting, post-production
etc. But there was so much work to be
done that it felt like only two years.
I have definitely aged while doing this
film but in a good way. Had I enrolled
with an animation and special effects
class to learn these techniques, it
would have taken five years to
completely understand the nitty-gritty
of every aspect. But while working on
the film, it took me only three years to
do so.
Today, I am technologically much more
advanced then I was years ago, and if I
were to make another film with
special effects, it would not be all that
difficult. This film has helped me
matureas a person and my hair has
turned grey.
But the film has also taught me to
bepatient and calm. There were
18,000 departments we were working
on, day in and day out. You had to deal
with them, read what they were
saying.
Yet, never once the thought of giving
up onthe project or starting something
else alongside it, like a small film, cross
my mind. It was impossible to think
that a project with SRK could remain
incomplete. I simply couldn’t think of
writing anything else. People now
assume that since the film is
approaching its release most of the
work is done but I know how much is
still left!In fact, I have forgotten what a
vacationmeans! Not my son, though.
When we were shooting in London, he
came over to spend time with me. He
knew his dad was working on a film
that would be releasing in 2011.
This was a dream I wanted to fulfill, so
I know I took the right decision to g
owith the film and stay with it. It is not
appropriate to compare any film with
Mughal-E-Azam, just because of the
length of time the film took to be
made. Similarly, no one can be
compared with Amitabh Bachchan.
There were rumours that there were
three directors on RA.One as it was
taking a long time. But that is not true.
Karan Johar did shoot for the film for
aday and a half, which would amount
to aminute on screen. On that day, we
had two units and I was supposed to
shuffle.
But, luckily, we had the luxury of
having Karan Johar there. So I asked
him if he would do it. If he wasn’t
there, I would have had to juggle
between the two units or else Shah
Rukh would have had to direct and act
as well. But that doesn’t take anything
away from me. People who spread
such nasty rumours don’t understand
the magnitude of the film.
Ra.One is a mammoth project – the
biggest film coming out of India.
Fromthe time I conceived the film to
the present, there are two things that
cometo mind. One is a feeling of
emptiness– when the film was being
made, there were so many things to
get done to put the film together…
shoot it, get the detailing right etc etc.
The second thingis now that I realise
how big the film is, I know just how
fortunate I am to be making a film like
this.

Aamir Khan wants a Hollywood babe for Dhoom?
If things are on course, Aamir Khan could be
romancing a Hollywood heroine in Dhoom
3, the much-hyped third installment in the
Dhoom series scheduled to release in 2012.
Reports coming in suggest producers Yash
Raj Films (YRF) plan to approach Eva
Longoria or Natalie Portman for the role,
after first-choice heroine Katrina Kaif
expressed reluctance to take up the offer
because the film would require her to wear
a bikini in a couple of scenes.
Latina superstar Penelope Cruz's name has
also been doing the rounds for the role. The
buzz over who will play Aamir's heroine in
Dhoom 3 has been gaining ground ever
since the actor confirmed being part of the
film sometime ago.
Initially, YRF had issued an official statement
saying they were looking for a fresh face
opposite Aamir. They planned to hold
auditions in cities across India for the right
girl. Then, news cropped up that the role
was offered to Katrina.
The Dhoom films have always banked on its
antihero, with John Abraham and Hrithik
Roshan essaying the leading man with grey
shades over the past two films. In sync, the
heroine of the antihero has been of more
importance than the traditional heroine of
the film.
The bikini, the reason why Katrina
reportedly turned down the offer, has
incidentally been a driving force in deciding
the oomph factor in these films. Esha Deol,
cast opposite John in Dhoom, and
Aishwarya Rai, co-star of Hrithik in Dhoom
2, notably flaunted their figure in sexy
beachwear.
The previous two Dhoom flicks were
superhits and YRF wants to raise the bar
this time. Aamir's heroine will not only have
to be a glamourous figure, she will have to
outdo Esha and Ash with her stunts and sex
appeal. After a point, they had doubts if a
newcomer would be able to handle the
character or not.
So, they decided to go for a Penelope Cruz
could also be approached Aamir, along with
Dhoom 3 director Vijay Krishna Acharya and
YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra, naturally
wants to create an explosion with the
casting. "Aamir in particular feels if they
can't find the right girl in Bollywood, it is a
good idea to look westwards," the source
said.
Dhoom 3 brings back Abhishek Bachchan as
the no-nonsense cop and Uday Chopra as
his funny sidekick in a new adventure
involving a new villain, played by Aamir.
Reports have suggested Aamir will play a
super thief who is also an expert gymnast
and uses acrobatics to get away after
daredevil heists. The perfectionist Aamir has
reportedly asked for time to prepare a
gymnast's body for the role.

Imogen’s game for Bollywood
Grammy winner Imogen Heap says she’s never seen anything like Bollywood. The 34 -year-old British singer-composer-songwriter, who partied with Shah Rukh Khan while on a visit to India recently, is enamoured by the man and the industry. “ I attended the Ra.One ( SRK’s film) party and what struck me about SRK was the way he is around people, whether they’re famous or not famous. He’s really amazing at just making you feel like you’re the only one in the room and I was really impressed,” she says.

Shah Rukh Khan looked stately dressed in crisp white dress shirt and black pants as he arrived at Mehboob Studios in Bandra, Mumbai late noon Thursday, July 28 to shoot an ad film. "had a shoot for ajay (Arora) my friends awesome company d'decor. raining like mad in mumbai...want to dance in the rain...wish the kids were awake," Shah Rukh tweeted after winding up from the shoot late at night. Shah Rukh back in perfect shape now having regained some weight; he had started looking gawky earlier while filming RA.One in London. The 45 -year-old star was his usual amicable self as he arrived, and cheerily posed for photogs. Back in August 2010 , Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri Khan were announced brand ambassadors for Mumbai based D'Decor, the world's third-largest producers of curtain and upholstery fabrics. This time Shah Rukh was all by himself. Shah Rukh, a self confessed workaholic who manages with barely 3 to 4 hours of sleep, often speaks about his love for work. "There is nothing that makes me more happy than making films," he says. On July 26 , after wrapping his most ambitious project, RA.One, Shah Rukh struck a philosophical note on Twitter. "ra.one shoot finally over. we start films so that we complete them fast...but when they finish there is a sense of emptiness as if a difficult but passionate relationship has come to an end." he tweeted around midnight. "film making is like love....like falling from a building...but not feeling the impact or the hurt till you reach the end. here's to new beginnings...cos endings are just beginnings backwards." The film is due in theaters on October 26 .

Two-much-too-soon for Shahrukh? Joginder Tuteja , IndiaGlitz
Buzz is building up for Shahrukh Khan this year. First he has 'Ra. One' arriving on Diwali and then he would be wrapping up 2011 with 'Don 2' hitting the screens on Christmas. Though typically Shahrukh starrers are spaced by at least a year, this is not really turning out to be the case this time around. "When Shahrukh originally started work on 'Ra. One' and 'Don 2', the original idea was to keep the two films distanced by a good enough duration. 'My Name Is Khan' had arrived early last year and even if 'Ra. One' would have released this summer, one wouldn't have minded 'Don 2' to arrive this Christmas as this would have led to six months gap", says an industry insider. However with 'Ra. One' seeing an extended schedule and the film still being shot, there was no other choice for Shahrukh but to grab Diwali slot. Meanwhile with Farhan Akhtar and Co. already closing on the festive occasion of Christmas. "The fact is that his fans have indeed been spoilt with an offer of ' two-much-too-soon'", quips a prominent filmmaker. Now whether Shahrukh's strategy of bringing two of his films so close to each other goes in his favour or not would be known in a few weeks from now once comparisons between 'Ra. One' and 'Don 2' further catch on more heat.
